Persons renting an apartment or room, or living in cooperative housing or a mobile home may be eligible for this program.
The renters' rebate amount is based on a graduated income scale and the amount of rent and utility payments excluding telephone made in the calendar year prior to the year in which the renter applies. Application may be made at the town social service agency, or the Assessor's Office, depending on the town, between April 1st and October 1st.
If you cannot determine your household income by the due date for the renter rebate claim, file Form PR, Renter Rebate Claim and complete Schedule HI, Household Income Schedule with the best information available. You are responsible for filing an amended Schedule HI when you know your actual household income. Use Schedule HI for the applicable year to amend household income. Send the amended Schedule HI separately from any other returns being filed with the Department. You may be asked to supply additional information.
